VA Caregiver Support Program
Support for the families and friends who care for our nation's veterans.
You Are Not Alone
The VA recognizes that caregivers—the family members and friends who provide crucial support to veterans—are essential partners in a veteran's health and well-being. The VA Caregiver Support Program offers a range of services to help you in your role, including the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers.
Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers
This is the VA's premier program for certain caregivers of eligible veterans. If approved, you can receive a range of benefits to support you in your role.
Key Benefits for the Caregiver:
- Monthly Stipend: A direct tax-free monthly payment.
- Health Insurance: Access to healthcare benefits through CHAMPVA.
- Mental Health Counseling: Individual and group counseling sessions.
- Respite Care: At least 30 days of respite care per year, allowing you to take a break while the veteran is cared for.
- Caregiver Training: Education and training on how to best care for the veteran.
Eligibility Requirements
Both the veteran and the caregiver must meet specific requirements. As of recent expansions, eligibility is now open to veterans from all eras of service.
